Super Mario (London)

Mario Hazarika, aka "Super Mario" from London, was born in India. The nickname "Super Mario" was first given to him at school to differenciate him from 3 other classmates also named Mario, being the tallest and largest Mario in the class, and being that the classic video game Super Mario was just released at the time, that name stuck.

He Arrived in London at the age of 17 with his mother, started working at "Kentucky Fried Chicken" (where he worked for 11 years), and studied Mathematics and accounting.

Mario's salsa history started in 1997, when he went to a club with friends after a breakup, and that's how it begun. And so he took lessons, when a while later he saw the then new "Salsa Brava" video tape (featuring Edie "salsa freak"  Espinoza among others), and that compelled him to learn L.A Style Salsa.

A year later he traveled to Toronto, Canada to learn advanced level salsa, where he was asked all of a sudden to give an advanced-level workshop. It was a huge success, and Mario started getting better and more widely known in the salsa scene, turning him within several years to one of the most popular and sought after salsa instructors for salsa congresses the world over.

Mario's style is fast-paced, based on LA Style, combining an unbelievable amount of moves and variations he can combine and even invent. For that, he got the reputation of "The Million Moves Man". The variations he teaches are easy to lead without intense training and rehearsals, however require learning on both partners' sides. The way he teaches breaks every move down to simple components, and then explaining how they should be lead.

Mario is extremely well-known in the Israeli salsa scene, after attending all the previous congresses in Eilat, as well as another salsa festival named "Latin Dream" which also takes place in Eilat. The workshops he gave on all levels were packed with people, and so are his workshops overseas. His instruction videos (3 were released so far) are also highly popular among LA Style dancers.

Finally, Mario is a very loyal ambassador of the Israeli salsa scene abroad, and contributed much to the rising popularity of Israeli salsa among instructors and dancers worldwide.

EdieEdie "Salsa Freak" Espinoza

Edie Espinoza, AKA "The Salsa Freak", is one of the most popular and sought-after salsa instructors in the world.

Edie was born & raised in Hick-Town, Colorado, where the only couple dance she knew was Square Dancing, a form of country dancing done to country music.

Actually, she says, It all started in November 1994, when she got tired of staying at home, and decided to go out to to a club she had heard about on the radio several months beforehand. The club was in Long Beach, Los Angeles. When she arrived, turns out the club turned into a salsa club, and she decided to stay and check the place out. Since she arrived early, they only played the music and she was thrilled by that "Latin Jazz"... a bit later into the evening more couples arrived, and she was excited to see that new dance.

Then, two very impressive-looking women and one very impressive-looking man stepped in the club, and all eyes were on them. When Edie saw them dance, she stared in amazement, she was so impressed by the dance - it looked to her like a combination of 10 different dance styles, with spins and a highly impressive styling, and at the end of the dance they recieved applause and whistles. Later on during the evening, the mandanced with both girls at once - Edie just couldn't believe her eyes. With time she would come to know the two ladies and the man by their names: Luis & Jobie Vasquez, and Janet Valenzuela from the "Salsa Brava" dance team.

That night changed Edie's entire life forever. Since she started dancing (at first it was hard and then she started taking lessons with Luis & Jobie Vasquez). She invested her days and her nights in learning the dance, and her enthusiasm about it got her to name herself "The Salsa Freak"! She gradually built herself as a dancer and an instructor, becoming more & more popular - at that point she decided to change the focus in her life and become a full-time salsa instructor, releasing many instruction videos, and started appearing at salsa congresses and many places around the world.

During her years in the world of salsa, Edie won numerous dance contests - including 1st prize at the legendary salsa contest at Club Mayan Los Angeles, as well as other contests. She has managed to instruct salsa in 35 countries so far, work in 3 different salsa schools (the famous "Salsa Brava" among others),  appear on television and much, much more.

These days Edie teaches and performs with her husband Al "Liquid Silver" Espinoza, and they own a salsa school, a dance group, and a production company - Liquid Silver Productions.

Edie is a big believer in God and the help he gives people in so many ways. To her, salsa was God's way of giving her a new lease on life, and a new energy.

Edie has visited twice in Israel: The first time was in 1997 - at that time the Israeli salsa scene was just beginning to develop. The second time was at the 3rd Annual Israeli Salsa Congress in Eilat, April 2004. At the congress she wowed the crowd in her lady style lessons, as well as "Hollywood Moves" - the new moves that belong to the new generation of LA salsa style - Millennium Style.

After her last visit to Israel, Edie posted a very warm article about the 2004 Congress:
